overview

The Kolorcraft team supported Waitrose to create a unique Christmas ‘store within a store’ environment that needed to deliver a high-quality visual ambience to delight their existing customers and attract new shoppers into their stores.

challenges

Waitrose wanted to achieve a strong Christmas presence that greeted customers at the front of store. Their aim was to conjure images of Christmas in the minds of customers, driving sales of Christmas products and reinforcing the association with high-quality products. This involved creating a high-end point of sale display that would create a focal point at the front of store.

The front of store stand (FOS) comes in a number of different formats across Waitrose stores. It was therefore crucial to utilise a consistent but flexible design with bespoke mechanisms that allowed the design to work across the different versions of FOS. Waitrose wanted to increase the theatre by adding 3D design, whilst minimising the installation time.

requirements

  • Create a strong Christmas presence at the front of store

  • Increase in-store theatre by using 3D design elements

  • Increase footfall and drive sales of Christmas products

  • Attract new customers and broaden loyal customer habits

  • Create consistent POS displays that function across stores

solutions

A range of elements were used to give the feel of quaintness and simplicity. Paper textures, crafts and block colours were key. Christmas designs – including reindeers, houses, villages and trees – were implemented using a range of POS displays. A number of 3D stand out decorations were also created to bring extra theatre to key Christmas shopping areas.

The Front Of Store Display Unit and Front Of Store housed the Christmas lines. These received the highest level of 3D decoration. A key element was the 3D houses, with a Christmas scene to the interior and textured tree backboard. These were designed to sit on top of the FOS unit, which had two different formats and a bespoke solution was created for each.

solutions

A selection of die-cut headers were created for the FOSDU. Several freestanding elements were also designed to sit on the welcome desk, to greet customers as they arrive, which included 3D reindeers, houses and trees. A 3D sleigh hanger also welcomed customers entering the store and in key areas. This featured reindeer motifs with paper textures and wished customers: “Merry Christmas from Waitrose”.

The customer journey was continued throughout the store using stitch bunting through the aisles. Christmas product packaging design was also reflected around the store, with decals on the checkouts and chillers, welcome desk trim and tablecloth on the turkey collection and gingerbread workshop table (in keeping with that year’s TV advert).

outcome

All POS elements were designed to be flat-packed to keep delivery costs to a minimum. Waitrose Branch Partners simply popped the house into shape, inserted the scene and clipped on the chimney. Assembly instructions and videos were supplied to make the process even more efficient. The design was easy to implement and delivered a high level of consistency across stores.

The Point of Sale looks FANTASTIC! -

It complements our Christmas product packaging and brings a warm, festive feel to our stores.
