What Printing Machines Do We Use At Kolorcraft?
Printing is where we began over forty years ago and is what we are truly passionate about. We have an extensive range of machinery, digital, litho, screen print - you name it we’ve got it. We create everything, from one-off samples to full store roll-outs. We don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk!
We have a range of large-format flatbed digital, large-format six-colour UV lithographic, small format digital and large format multi colour screen print presses. We’ve even got roll fed machinery for producing banners. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, we also offer an extensive range of comprehensive in-house print finishing too and we even produce our own packaging.
Screen Printing Machines
Screen printing has come a long way since it was first introduced by China's Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) and then widely adopted by the Japanese. Screen printing basically involves transferring a design through a mesh onto a surface. In those early days in Asia, it's believed that stencils were made out of paper and the mesh screen were woven from human hair!
The French swapped hair for silk in the 17th century but nowadays we tend to use synthetic mesh in large-scale screen printer that allow us to automate the whole process. We can print on just about any material in huge sizes with amazing accuracy and repeatability, with a wide range of Pantone colours, fluorescent inks, reflective, varnishes and even glitter!

Litho printing machines
Like many great inventions, lithographic printing (or litho printing for short) was discovered by accident. In 1796, German playwright Alois Senefelder realised he could duplicate his scripts by scribbling them onto slabs of Bavarian limestone, rolling on ink and pressing everything onto paper. Genius! And if you were wondering about the name, it’s Latin. Litho means stone and graph means mark.
Thankfully, these days we don’t have to heft massive rocks around our printing studios. We’re the proud owners of an incredible cutting-edge litho printer that can run at speeds up to 12,000 sheets an hour and print on virtually anything, from paper to board and synthetic materials up to 1.2mm thick. Fast drying UV ink technology preserves colours and detail better and lets us produce really high quality POS materials.
Digital printing presses
The history of digital printing is understandably shorter than screen and litho printing. It wasn’t until the early 1990s that digital printing presses came into existence, with the world’s first digital colour printing press (called Indigo) arriving in 1993. For the first time ever, customers could enjoy high-quality, personalised short-run printing straight from a desktop at the press of a button.
Here at Kolorcraft, we can deliver small format through to large format digital printing of flat sheets up to 3 metres x 2 metres in size or continuous huge reel to reel printing. So you can expect amazing quality prints at a decent rate of knots. Our machines can print a full spectrum of bright colours and will print on just about any material.
